Back in November of 2008, I created an Old New York Sing-Along at the Bowery Poetry Club. I had no idea what I was doing ... but it was a start. Then I connected with singer-musician Anne Phillips ("The Jazz Nativity") and we realized we could do a group sing together. We started an East Coast version of SING! SING! SING!, evenings where we encourage people who love songs from the 1920s up to the 50s/60s -- mainly classic pop songs and show tunes -- to get together and sing. We hand out lyrics, …

We are a group of people who love to sing. Bluegrass harmony is easy to learn, so it makes the singing that much more enjoyable. We have 2 professional musicans/instructors who come with their guitars and voices. We meet from usually in the vicinity of Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY. The cost is $30 per person per class. This may sound like a lot, but we have great instructors, and the enjoyment and camaraderie make it worthwhile. I just found without the professional leadership the group would get s …

The mission here is to sidestep the standard 50's - 70's pop selections you'd normally associate with a cappella singing and instead focus on good ol' fashioned rock and roll arrangements. The intention - once a group is in place and we have enough material - is to walk festivals, maybe open for some classic rock groups, possibly the occasional party. The expectation is that singing the FM dial will open some fun doors. In its purest form VORP is an under staffed a cappella group. We have man …
